Going to attempt to make my first run to afton ever. Drew may have to provide transport, however... DREW!!

Digging this back up since we are a week out, going to post up who is riding in what vehicles since it will be tight. Please post if you if you want to come still as Im sure we can find someone a ride somehow

I am going up a day early to visit with the girlfriend's fam... so if anyone needs anything hauled I can do so

I'm in. I'd appreciate a ride and pay for gas if I could get one, but barring that I'm also able to drive if there are no other options.

Edit: Since it looks like all the cars are full, I'll offer to drive. If I do drive, would someone from Drew's car like to ride with me? It'd make it less packed in that car. Also, if anyone else wants to go and hasn't said anything yet, I can fit three people (not including me) comfortably and 4 in a pinch.

Is there anyone else going/does anyone want to ride with me? It feel much less worthwhile to drive just myself.

I am driving solo too Keith. I will be in Charlottesville a day early visiting the lady's family. But, I would like to meet up with someone along I-64 to convoy in with. Never been to Afton, not trying to be late because I got lost haha

Yeah... That. I have no idea how to get there, so a meeting point and convoy would not go amiss.

unfortunately....haha, I believe we will be coming from two different directions keith. You will probably take 81 to 64 and I will be coming from 64 out of Charlottesville....

I know. I was more directing that comment at Drew, Chris, Bob, or others coming from here and going up. Or at least an address to put in a GPS would be nice.

You will be looking for a metal gate at the bottom of a hill. Cars will be visible from the road, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding the spot.

Thanks Greg! Looks like I will be within half an hour coming from Charlottesville!

yea its really easy to get there. the google directions will take you pretty much right there (the end is a little off though). So once you get on the gravel road (I forget its name but its the last one) just keep a lookout on your right for said gate. Its a little tiny field surrounded by wood on three sides (well thats the parking lot at least) and its at the bottom of a little valley type thing in the road (meaning the road comes down theres the gate then goes back up). First time I went I drove past it cuz there wasn anyone in it yet went an extra mile down the road then came back and boom found it. If i remember correctly its right after a little turn so the gate is kinda hidden till you get right on top of it.

Also i haven read all the posts but if people are trying to meet (coming from 81) the best spot is right after you get off 64 at the top of afton mountain. Theres a little parking lot there where there used to be a hotel and its right before you cross under a stone bridge. Also I had a friend meet me there once and he was coming from cville cuz its really easy to get to and really not to far out of the way if your coming from that direction.

Drew and Bob: What time/where are you leaving from Blacksburg? We could do a convoy up. My current plan is to meet Gene at his place at 7:00 and be on the road around 7:30. That should put us there around 10:00.

We should totally do a carpool. I am figuring I need to put gear in Bob's truck. What are the final riding assignments?
