Any Suggestions for EoTech style Holo Sight?

Post  Cleaver on Fri Mar 02, 2012 3:11 pm

Looking into maybe getting a holo sight, preferably without spending an arm and a leg. ACM models are cheap, but I have no idea how bad the parallax compensation is on cheaper models. I figure SOMEONE on here has had a holo that they've been happy with at some point. Bonus points for having some kind of lens cover; because I'm paranoid with my optics I plan on retrofitting some acrylic in as optic protection.

None of the ACM are holos, they are glorified red dots. There is just a projected circle instead of a projected dot. As such they cannot be holographic. How does holo sight work?

The counterfeit Eotechs use a curved glass to try and prevent distortion of the reticle. The glass must catch reflection in order for the clone to work. This is the main fault with ACM eotechs. Because the sun shield is not big like on a aimpoint clone, the sun often catches the reflective glass. So if you go clone, the aimpont is a better chioce, especially with a killflash that will protect the lens and minimize glare.
Real vs Clone with glare comparison

Lastly I have seen many eotech clones with damage, they are bb magnets. They do sell plastic inserts to protect the lens. I would get those or use 1/8"polycarb, not acrylic. Acrylic yellows quicker and is much more brittle.

T-Tiger on ASF has good eotech and aimpoint clones. I loved the aimpont m4comp with killflash. I got it on T-tigers reccomendation and should never have sold it. no glare whatsoever and a aa battery for long life. Cheaper than the eotechs by a few bucks as well...just sayin. It also had a riser that brought it up to an easier aiming level.

I kinda figure as much. Looking online at vids and stuff I saw that it managed to correct for parallax slightly, but most people said it wasn't perfect (which I kinda figured). My red dot is close, but then again, my benchmark is kind of just across the room so...yeah.

I'll check out those comps...

You're really just buying a "visual style" of a scope. If you want the eotech style, get it, but strictly cost benefit stuff, the aimpoint in a good mount is vastly superior. Reticles on these things are largely meaningless during day time games. Even if they were turned off and you use the lens as a targeting section, you won't notice much of a difference. Before I stuck with an ACOG, that was how I worked it.

I haven't done any research but I'm going to go ahead and mention bestofferbuy.com as a good source of scopes. I think they beat out all the big stores in pricing(there's also a one time use discount code).

King hit the nail on the head. If you want the look of a holo sight, get the look. If not, just get an aimpoint. Realistically you're just using the "window" of the optic itself as your sight, and since this is airsoft, you're really just walking that shit in.

Optics are one of the few things I acquire for the sake of their function (over simply look). I wasn't sure how close airsoft manufacturers got to the function of EoTech's, but from the sounds of it it's not much closer than the average airsoft red dot. I don't really have a good dot scope, and if those aimpoints are what you all see as the most functional than those are what I shall look more closely at.

EDIT: And yeah...that m4 comp aimpoint thing looks just about perfect. Killflash looks easily replaceable if necessary, that should be all the optics protection I'd need.
